Design Renewals – Following the EU Design Reform

The new European Design Regulation (“EUDR”) (the Amending Regulation on Community designs no. 2024/2822) will be applicable as of 1 May 2025. The reform not only introduces new terminology but will also change renewal periods and fees and introduce a new grace period for late renewals.

In mid-November, we reported that GEMA was seemingly going on the offensive against the providers of generative AI systems with its lawsuit against OpenAI before the Munich Regional Court . The lawsuit accuses OpenAI of training its well-known product “ChatGPT” with copyrighted song lyrics, which are also part of the repertoire of GEMA members. Now comes another lawsuit: On 21 January 2025, GEMA filed a lawsuit against the AI company Suno, again at the Munich Regional Court. The hype surrounding the trendy chocolate is taking on more and more bizarre forms. Customs recently confiscated 90 kg of "Dubai chocolate" from a woman at Hamburg airport. The woman had tried to smuggle in 460 bars of the popular confectionary from Istanbul, apparently aiming at selling them on the German market for a profit. But wait a minute, "Dubai chocolate" from Turkey? Is that even possible?
